Border War

Border War, 1966 – 1990. This was South African Border War, also known as the Namibian War of Independence or Angolan Bush War. It was largely an asymmetrical conflict that took place in Namibia (then South-West Africa), Zambia and Angola from 26 August 1966 until 21 March 1990. Asymmetric warfare is war between belligerents whose relative military power varies considerably, or whose strategy or tactics vary significantly. It is usually between a standing professional army and an insurgent- or resistance movement. Because of the conscription system in force at that time, GKSA ministers had a critical and important job, also responsibility in the pastoral care of troops on the border and close relatives at home. On display is a uniform coat and cap with insignia of the Military Chaplaincy Service.
