Dirk Postma

Dirk Postma, 1818-1890. Dirk Postma was the first minister of the Reformed Church. He was the Founder and first professor of the Burgersdorp Training School where ministers and teachers were trained from 1869 to 1905. Dirk Postma was born in Dokkum the Netherlands on 10 January 1818. In 1834 and reverted back to the confessions/creeds and liturgy as established by the Synod of Dordrecht. Postma felt called to become a minister. Since there was no Theological School in his religious denomination, he received an education/training from Rev T F de Haan. Postma was confirmed as minister in Minnerta in 1840, without formal theological training. He then also served Middelstum-Bedum, Wildevank and Zwolle. He campaigned especially for Christian education and contributed to the establishment of his own Theological School in Kampen in 1854.
